Grey District welcomes repeal of Three Waters reform

Grey District Mayor Tania Gibson has welcomed the introduction of legislation to repeal Three Waters at Parliament yesterday.

“We’ve been working alongside the members of Communities 4 Local Democracy He Hapori mō te Manapori (C4LD) and so we’re pleased with the repeal of this unpopular reform.

“Previous and current councils have made good decisions around our water assets. Much of our three waters infrastructure is in good stead and we know our place and our people. We always have been and continue to be more than capable of making these decisions for ourselves.”

Mayor Gibson says the devil will obviously be in the detail and there will be more discussions to come, however this is a step in the right direction for local democracy and the region.

“To know we have more and better control over our own destiny can only be positive,” says Mayor Gibson.
