Fun, family event coming to Hamilton West with Your Neighbourhood – Hamilton City Council

Hamilton City Council’s popular Your Neighbourhood roadshow is heading to Hamilton West on Saturday 6 April at Elliott Park in Nawton.

In partnership with the Western Community Centre, this free and family-friendly event will give Hamiltonians a chance to learn more about the services Hamilton City Council provides and its plans for Hamilton Kirikiriroa over the next decade.

There’s something for the whole whaanau, said Council’s General Manager of Partnerships, Communication and Maaori, Janet Carson.

“Nau mai haere mai e ngaa koutou katoa. We’ve got a giant snakes and ladders board, food trucks, and a sausage sizzle. Local kapa haka and live music by groups including Zentarge and Maeroa Intermediate.

“Tamariki will love getting their faces painted, or even swinging from a tree, with help from our park and arborist staff,” she said.

Local community and health services will also showcase a range of support available.

The event lands within Council’s 2024-34 Long-Term Plan consultation period. Council is seeking feedback from the community on its draft budget and proposed plans for the next 10 years.

Carson said the event was an excellent time for whaanau to find out more about it.

“Have a say in what your council does, tell us what you think, what you want Council to spend your rates on, and as importantly, what you don’t.”

Staff will be available to answer questions about what’s being proposed for the city, including what’s behind a proposed rates increase, what this means for the city’s finances, and who qualifies for a rates rebate. Consultation closes on 21 April 2024.

Council takes the Your Neighbourhood roadshow to a range of communities throughout the city three times a year to share Council’s work with the community and find out what’s important to Hamiltonians. Past events have included Peacocke, Rototuna, Crawshaw, Claudelands, the central city, Melville, and more recently, Fairfield.

So, gather your whaanau and come and join us for food, fun and a chance to chat.
